# Use Darwin in Claude or ChatGPT

> Connect Claude or ChatGPT to Darwin and ask about your website chat in plain words: results, leads, unanswered questions, opening tests, and changes to the agent.

<div className="darwin-location"><strong>Find it in Darwin</strong> Settings → API → AI assistants <a href="https://app.meetdarwin.ai/admin/settings/api">Open this screen ↗</a></div>

Connect the AI assistant you already use to Darwin, then ask about your website chat the way you'd ask a colleague. The assistant reads your numbers and conversations from Darwin and, if you allow it, makes changes for you.

## What you can ask

| Ask | What the assistant does |
| - | - |
| *"How did the chat do this week compared with last?"* | Reads visitors, chats, leads and meetings for both weeks, and the biggest drop in the funnel. |
| *"What did visitors ask that the agent couldn't answer?"* | Finds the conversations Darwin graded as failed, with each visitor's question and what to add. |
| *"Show me the leads from yesterday and what they wanted."* | Lists the conversations that became leads, with the page and the first question. |
| *"Which opening is winning on the pricing page?"* | Reads your opening tests, each opening's words and results. |
| *"Add our new refund policy to what the agent knows."* | Adds a document the agent answers from, searchable at once. |
| *"Make the greeting friendlier and mention the free trial."* | Changes the agent's greeting. Only with write access. |

## Connect Claude

Step by step, including Claude Code: [Connect Claude](/integrations/claude). In short:

<Steps>
  <Step title="Add Darwin as a connector">
    In Claude, open **Settings → Connectors**, add a custom connector named **Darwin**, and paste this URL:

    ```text theme={null}
    https://app.meetdarwin.ai/api/mcp
    ```

    On a Team or Enterprise plan, an owner may need to add it for the organisation first.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Sign in and allow">
    Select **Connect**. Darwin opens and asks you to sign in, then shows **Connect Claude to Darwin** with what it will be able to do. Tick **Read only: let it look, never change anything** if you only want answers, then select **Allow**.

    The connection belongs to the workspace you're signed in to. Only an owner or admin can allow it.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Ask a question">
    Back in Claude, ask *"Using Darwin, how many meetings did the chat book in the last 7 days?"* Claude answers with your numbers.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Connect ChatGPT

In ChatGPT, open **Plugins → + → Add custom MCP server**, enter `https://app.meetdarwin.ai/api/mcp` under **Connection**, choose OAuth, and select **Create as a plugin**. When ChatGPT sends you to Darwin, sign in, choose **Read only** if you like, and select **Allow**. [Step by step →](/integrations/chatgpt)

## Claude Code, Cursor and other tools

[Connect Cursor](/integrations/cursor) has a one-click install. Developers can also connect Claude Code or any MCP client with an API key instead of a sign-in. [The MCP server reference](/api-reference/mcp) has the commands, the full list of tools, and the read-only server URL.

## Read only or full access

| | Read only | Full access |
| - | - | - |
| Results, conversations, leads, meetings, tests | Yes | Yes |
| Add or remove knowledge | No | Yes |
| Change the agent's wording, look or booking link | No | Yes |
| Pause, resume or apply opening tests | No | Yes |
| Switch the chat off or on | No | Yes |

Start with read only. You can connect again later with full access.

## See and disconnect connections

**Settings → API → AI assistants** lists every assistant connected to the workspace, when it connected and when it was last used. Select **Disconnect** to remove one; it loses access at once, and connecting again needs a new sign-in.

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Does the assistant see my visitors' names and emails?">
    Yes. Read only and full access can both read leads and contacts the way you can in Darwin, and the assistant's provider handles what it reads under its own terms. If it shouldn't see personal details, connect it with an API key that leaves out the `contacts:read` scope instead; the [MCP server reference](/api-reference/mcp) shows how.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="The connection asks me to start again">
    Sign-in requests last 15 minutes. Start connecting again from Claude or ChatGPT.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="It says only an owner or admin can connect">
    Ask an owner or admin of the workspace to connect it, or to make you an admin under **Team**.
  </Accordion>
